Yes the team are going to be performing at the Electrofringe at Newcastle, NSW Australia.
TEAM PLASTIQUE AT ELECTROFRINGE Team Plastique- a quartet of posers posing as posers taking plastique style and decadence ala Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Gary Numan to put some much needed "je nais se pas" into the electronic scene. Team Plastique is more than just a band, but a Team that likes to get up to all kinds of stylish escapades like performing in shop windows(Peep Show), creating interactive installations(Teenage Slumber Party and the world's largest plastique bed), producing a Zine (Plastique) and organising dance parties (This is Not Ibiza and Titanique Boat Cruise).
TEAM BIOS
Legs Akimbo: A femme fatale across countless incarnations, Legs Akimbo channels her many past lives to find inspiration for her daring performances. Costumes are Legs' special forte. She loves to dress up, sometimes her costumes fall off, but its not her fault.
Miss Dish: Part school-girl, part alien, Miss Dish is perhaps the cutest, yet most intelligent Teamster. One minute she may be making out with her imaginary boyfriend of two months, Milko and the next she's decoding highly complex messages from outer space.
Psykat: Mysterious, erratic and kinky are all words to describe Psykat. Rumour has it that Psykat is in fact the escaped mental patient, Laura Phillips. Judging by her destructive fascination with fire and plastic, it may well be the case….
Danke Schoen: Team Plastique romantique, Danke Schoen is the Team's muse both on-stage and off. Gifted in the art of sonic seduction, he is the Saint Sebastian of the Team using the arrows cast against him to line the plastique ladder to the Stars.
Proposal for the Panel Discussion at Electrofringe Team Plastique would like to propagate their mission a la plastique as part of Electrofringe. The Team formed in February 01 to add a much needed flamboyant performance element to dance party culture. This was a reaction against most performers being solely tucked away behind computer consoles whilst more visually minded punters could only feast their eyes on increasingly generic and formulaic dance party visuals. The Team knew that everyone wanted something more, something different and they were only too willing to give it to them in performances which ranged from simulating sex with sock puppets and condiments to licking whipped cream of a prosthetic leg. However, the development of the Team in Brisbane matched growing trends in Europe and America with the emergence of the Electroclash movement. Named in October 01 in New York, Electroclash is characterised by electro-synth music, an extravagant performance element with a strong emphasis on costumes and fantasy personas for the performers. These are all the major features of Team Plastique. Therefore, the Team believes that they are groundbreaking in the development of Electroclash in Australia and that their philosophy in regard to the direction of dance party culture was a common global attitude which has given birth to a new movement. For the panel discussion, Team Plastique will adopt their fantasy personas and conduct themselves in a most stylishly decadent manner. For example, the Team will not sip on water, but elegantly down champagne. The Team will not promote themselves as intellectuals, but rather as sensational aesthetes on a pathway to the Stars. The Team may upset a few members of the audience, but that will be arranged beforehand.(Similar to the great poetry debate of last year's festival) Audience interaction will be encouraged, a few saucy boys and girls will don tres chic plastique outfits and feel the plastique difference. Basically, the panel discussion will be a performance and the Team will be highly pretentious. However, at the same time the Team will also talk about their influences, inspirations and why we don't just involve music, but also art installations, performance art, zines and visuals. The Team would like to include footage from previous performances such as Peep Show (shop window performance) and This is Not Ibiza not just to show the crowd what they do, but also to add a bit of variety to their discussion. (Of course this all depends on the facilities available at the venue.) Team Plastique's panel discussion will be very entertaining and very different to other panel discussions. The Team likes to make an impact and give people something to remember or at least talk about with their friends for five minutes…Nevertheless, the discussion will convey the Team's philosophy that dance culture is more than just music and give the crowd a first hand understanding and experience of Electroclash.
